Despite the rails being set at 0 feet and two to three paths of fresh grass on the inside, outside and off the pace runners once again dominated the Saturday Kentucky Downs card.

I’m hoping for a big day from jockey Adam Beschizza, whom I have on top in four of the 11 races.

Despite firm going and two paths of fresh grass with the temporary rail being moved in from 40 to 17 feet out, outside stalkers and closers dominated the Wednesday card at Kentucky Downs. Only Franklin lover Snapper Sinclair, who now has three wins and a second from four local starts, scored in gate-to-wire fashion.

With the turf course drying out for day two of the Kentucky Downs September meet, not one of the 11 winners took the field gate to wire. The vast majority stalked from mid-pack, and the final two winners of the day rallied from far off the pace going a mile. The outcomes were much more predictable, with a 16-1 winner in race three the only outlier on a day that saw all the others pay out at 6-1 or less.

The takeout on the Pick Fours (14%) and Pick Fives (15%) is super fan-friendly, so let’s try to take advantage.

Sunday’s 11-race opening day card is highlighted by the $500,000 Dueling Grounds Oaks and the $750,000 Dueling Grounds Derby.

Kentucky Downs is beyond unique, and being dialed in to the track’s idiosyncrasies can be a huge advantage at the betting windows over the short, six-day “all turf” meet.

A light Sunday for horses who last raced in Kentucky, Li’l Tootsie is somewhat intriguing in her grass debut in the Galway S.

Thee of the 10 horses entered in Saturday’s Saratoga Special (G2) exit the Bashford Manor (G3), but it’s Gunite, who interests me most.

Just a small sample of Kentucky invaders on the Friday Saratoga card, including a likely favorite in Six Pack that I’m willing to take a stand against in race four.

Simply Ravishing was one of the top two-year-old fillies in the country last year, but her last two starts have left a lot to be desired.

Kentucky invaders on Wednesday’s Saratoga card are somewhat scarce, although both Town Avenger and Elle Est Forte are eligible to make an impact on turf
