Although they remain one of the top teams in the NFL, the Kansas City Chiefs haven’t been as spectacular in the second half of the season as they were in the first. It took the Chiefs overtime to beat rookie quarterback Lamar Jackson led Baltimore 27-24 as a big favorite in Week 14. That will certainly color the action that comes in for Week 15 Thursday Night Football betting when this team takes on the suddenly surging Chargers.

In Week 13, Kansas City struggled versus the hapless Oakland Raiders, yielding 33 points to a team that only averages less than 19 per. On Thursday night, Kansas City hopes they can beat back one of the hottest teams in the league, and a team that is truly threatening their perch in the AFC West.

Since starting the season 1-2, the Chargers have played like Super Bowl contenders. LAC rides a 3-game win streak into this Thursday night matchup. Los Angeles is 9-1 SU in their last 10 games.

Will Los Angeles continue their hot play, or will Kansas City reassert itself as the team to beat for the AFC West Division?

NFL WEEK 15 THURSDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL BETTING L.A. Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs Thursday, Dec 13  – Arrowhead Stadium – 8:20pm ET Odds: Chiefs (-3.5) 53

Are the Chargers Ready to Make Their Move?

Los Angeles is only a game behind the Kansas City Chiefs for the division title ahead of this Week 15 Thursday Night Football betting clash. If Los Angeles beats the Chiefs, they not only tie the Chiefs atop the AFC West, but they could also take a step closer to homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.

New England, who is also chasing the top spot in the conference, lost their fourth game this season in Week 14 while the NFC North leading Pittsburgh Steelers have lost 5 games. If the Chargers are to make any definitive statements, it's going to come on Thursday.

It might be perfect timing for the Bolts to make a big move. LAC is riding high after winning their third straight while Kansas City is not only without Kareem Hunt, whom they cut a couple of weeks ago, but are without backup Spencer Ware as well. Tyreek Hill is battling injuries too. The star wide receiver’s suffering from a heel issue. Hill’s listed as probable, but he most likely won’t be 100%.

One of the big requirements when challenging Kansas City is resilience, and the Chargers have proven that they don't fold under pressure. They stopped Ben Roethlisberger and the Pittsburgh Steelers in the second half of their impressive 33-30 win. Leaning on their defense, the time might be perfect for LAC to make a move towards the 1-seed.

Kansas City Must Regain Momentum

Before playing the Arizona Cardinals on Nov. 11, the Kansas City Chiefs were the best team in the NFL against the spread. KC had an 8-1 ATS record. But, after only beating the Cardinals 26-13, the shine’s come off Kansas City’s invincibility.

The Chiefs are 1-3-1 ATS in their last 4. They continue to win games, but they’ve struggled against two inferior teams in the past couple of weeks. It wouldn’t be so difficult to determine how well Kansas City plays on Thursday night if Andy Reid didn’t coach them.

Reid’s teams have a tendency to get into a rut in the second half of the season. If you look book at his coaching history, his squads always start out hot. Then, as opposing coaches adjust to what Reid’s teams try to accomplish, he has trouble counter punching.

That could be the case with KC, who was terrible at stopping a team with a running rookie quarterback in Week 14. Kansas City must regain the first half momentum to have any shot at winning the division and keeping homefield advantage.

Week 15 Thursday Night Football Betting Analysis

Most NFL handicappers have looked at the positive trends around the Chiefs, which is why they favor Kansas City to cover by a heavy consensus. But, as good as the trends are surrounding KC, the fresher metrics are with the Chargers.

LAC is 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games, 15-7 ATS in their last 22 on the road versus a team with a winning home record, and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 following an ATS loss. The Chiefs are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 after allowing less than 150 yards passing in their previous.

Not only that, but the road team is 6-1 ATS in the last 7. Visually, the Chargers look like the better squad. They’ve also played like it in the past month. I’m not backing the Los Angeles Chargers against the spread. I’m taking a bigger swing on the Chargers to win SU. Pick your own poison, but back the road team.
