The allure of an elusive second Super Bowl ring has brought New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees back for perhaps his final season.

But do the Saints have what it takes to reach the mountain top again?

Saints have fallen apart in the playoffs

The Saints are on the short list of elite teams in the NFC, and they have +1100 odds to win the Super Bowl.

New Orleans has won the NFC South in three straight seasons, but unfortunately for Brees, the Saints have come undone in playoff games they had no reason to lose.

But as far as the regular season is concerned, not even the reunion of Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski in Tampa Bay will challenge the mighty Saints in the NFC South next season.

New Orleans looks lethal

In the offseason, the Saints acquired wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders from San Francisco, giving them a solid No. 2 receiving option, behind Michael Thomas. They replaced retired fullback Zach Line with Michael Burton and drafted center Cesar Ruiz in the first round to open up lanes for Alvin Kamara. New Orleans also boosted its defense with cornerback Malcolm Jenkins.

The only thing stopping the Saints from reaching and winning the Super Bowl is themselves.

As incredible as Brees and head coach Sean Payton have been together, the manner of their playoff defeats has been telling. For all the weapons Brees has at his disposal, the Saints have looked hapless at times against defenses that have solved their routine offense. To avoid this pitfall, the team needs a first-round bye and limit the load on Brees’ shoulders.

Saints should benefit from an easy schedule

The best chance Brees and the Saints have to win a second title is to take advantage of one of the easiest schedules in the league and get off to a hot start. Even with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers lurking, it isn’t out of the question the Saints can wrap the division up early and be in the running for the #1 seed by November.

Kamara is poised for a huge season

This team is built to win now, and they’ve added all the pieces the need to do just that. A healthy Kamara should thrive with the additions to open up running lanes and save Brees from bailing the team out in a firefight.

If the Saints manage to avoid a tough defensive team like the Vikings, the 49ers, or even Green Bay, the Vince Lombardi trophy is in the cards. Whether Brees can beat the likes of Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson is another story, but this should be the season Brees gets another shot at a second Super Bowl ring.
