Every NFL Sunday there are players who capture and break hearts across America. BetAmerica's weekly Heroes and Villains feature highlights the players who made and lost money for NFL bettors. Let's take a look at Week 6.

Villain: Philip Rivers

The Chargers may have a new home in Los Angeles, but it has been the same old song and dance since the team was in San Diego. They start slow, then scratch and claw back to have a chance to win in the final minutes, only to come up short.

They dug a deep hole against the Steelers, one they did not start digging out of until Pittsburgh had a 24-0 lead to start the fourth quarter. Philip Rivers managed to inject some juice into the offense. The Chargers scored 17 points to set up a potential game-tying drive with a minute to play, and a score would have given Over bettors tickets to cash. Instead, Rivers threw an interception on the second play of the final drive. The Chargers lost their fourth game of the season and the Under hit by 1.5 points.

Hero: DeVante Parker

The 2019 Miami Dolphins covered a spread. Anything is possible!

A Toilet Bowl to end all Toilet Bowls, the winless Dolphins were six-point home underdogs against the winless Redskins. Washington had a win and an easy cover entering the fourth quarter, but the Fins fired back. Facing a 17-3 deficit, a Kalen Ballage touchdown put Miami within striking range. Ryan Fitzpatrick had just enough Fitz-magic to throw an 11-yard touchdown to DeVante Parker with six seconds remaining to secure the elusive cover.

The two-point conversation for the win failed, but beggars can't be choosers.

Villain: Sam Darnold

The Jets were hapless without their second-year starting quarterback. Darnold missed three games while stricken with mononucleosis, and the Cowboys dropped from nine-point favorites to seven-point favorites when the Jets announced their quarterback would return to action. The Jets did not even need the points to cover the spread, as they handed the Cowboys their third straight loss. Darnold threw for 338 yards and two touchdowns to give the Jets a 24-22 victory, their first win of the 2019 season.

Hero: Deshaun Watson

The Texans and the Chiefs provided a potential playoff preview and a matchup between the two most talented quarterbacks selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft. Money was on the reigning NFL MVP, Patrick Mahomes, at home -3.5 points. Deshaun Watson had other plans.

The Texans quarterback completed 30 of his 42 passes for 280 yards, with two interceptions and a touchdown. He also ran for two scores, including the go-ahead touchdown with six minutes to play. Not only did the score secure a victory for the Texans, it pushed the total to 55 to hit the over by a half-point. If you parlayed the over with the underdogs, you had a nice Sunday afternoon.
