NFL Week 3 Sunday provided no respite from the surprises that happened in Week 1 and Week 2. Check out my Top 5 NFL Week 3 Sunday Surprises! - by DS Williamson

Top 5 NFL Week 3 Sunday Surprises

1 . Browns end their 635-days winless streak

Other big things happened in NFL Week 3, and the Browns didn’t play on Sunday, but Cleveland stopping their 635-day winless streak makes the top of my NFL Week 3 Sunday Surprises list. Cleveland had to rally to get past the New York Jets 21-17. They did that after first overall pick Baker Mayfield came into the game. Mayfield looks like the real deal to me, which is why Browns’ fans should be giddy. My prediction is that the Browns turned the page in Week 3, meaning I think they challenge for the AFC North. It's probably worth mentioning that they still haven't won on Sunday, but they have a chance this coming weekend against a gettable Oakland squad.

Next Game - NYJ at Jacksonville -7.5, Cleveland at Oakland -2.5

2. Raiders go 0-3 to start the Chucky II Era

Before last season, many NFL handicappers touted Oakland as a Super Bowl contender. The Raiders failed last season, prompting Mark Davis to fire Jack Del Rio and hand over the team to Jon Gruden. Supposedly, Gruden inherited a good team. After 3 weeks, it’s tough to call Chucky’s squad a mediocre team. You can blame quarterback Derek Carr because of his 5 interceptions, you can blame the Raiders trading Khalil Mack because the D’s only produced 3 sacks, or you can blame the NFL schedule makers because Oakland’s only home game in the first 3 weeks was against the scorching L.A. Rams. Whomever you blame, the Raiders are 0-3 after the 20-28 loss to the Miami Dolphins with no shot of making the playoffs and we haven’t gotten to October.

Next Game - Cleveland at Oakland -2.5

3. Bills’ provide third greatest money line upset in NFL history

Buffalo entered their Week 3 game with the Bills a huge +16.5 dog. In many sportsbooks, the spread rose a half a point to Bills +17. All the Bills did was dominate the Vikings 26-7 in the third greatest money line upset in NFL history. It was obvious that the Bills were motivated and that Minnesota took their Week 3 opponent way too lightly. The Vikings barely have time to figure out what just happened to them as they face the LA Rams this Thursday on a short week.

Next Game - Buffalo at Green Bay -10.0, Minnesota at LAR -6.5

4. Patriots lose their second straight game

Since 2001, when Tom Brady took over as New England’s starting quarterback, the Patriots have gone 38-11 (.776) in games where they lost the week before. That percentage was slightly higher heading into the Patriots 10-26 loss to Detroit this past Sunday night because last season the Pats won every game after their 3 regular season losses. The Lions assaulted the Patriots by shutting down New England’s passing and rushing attacks. The loss explains why New England made the deal for Josh Gordon, who sat this one out with a hamstring injury. Things are bad for New England, but the Lions have reason to hope. This is the kind of win that propels a team forward in a positive way.

Next Game - Detroit at Dallas -3.0, Dolphins at Patriots -6.5

5. Saints’ Quarterback Drew Brees beats the Falcons by himself

Brees was unstoppable on Sunday: 3 TD passes, 396 passing yards, and 2 rushing TDs. His final rushing TD came on a 1-yard sneak that ended the game in overtime. The Saints franchise stud also notched 6,326 completions to become the all-time leader in that category, surpassing Brett Favre. Brees put the Saints on his back and the Saints came away with a win, while Atlanta once again has to toil with another frustrating loss.

Next Game - New Orleans -3.5 at NYG, Cincinnati at Atlanta -6.0
