Race 4

There are 8 divisions of the Pennsylvania All-Star Series for 2 year olds on tonight's card at Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs. The 4th race has some interesting entries: 3 first timers, one a Julie Miller entry, and more than one other trainer who has a knack for getting 2 Year old trotters to do their best.

The morning line favorite, Cooler Schooner, at 5-2 has John Campbell driving for Jim Campbell. Out of Broadway Hall and with a dam out of Blue Chip, this filly has impeccable breeding for trotting success and the best speed rating in this race by far. If you'll remember, her sire had an undefeated season in 2002 and won the Breeder's Cup that year. Her full sister, Broadway Schooner, won the Hambletonian Oaks in 2009 and also the Breeder's Crown. It might be that Cooler Schooner is going to follow in her big sister's footsteps.

Designed to Be, a first time starter, is trained by Julie Miller, who has almost 30% for winners first time out. Designed to Be's sire, Donato Hanover, won the Breeder's Crown and Dan Patch award for 2 year old trotters. During his 2 year old season, his only loss was in an Earn and Learn non-betting race where he came in 3rd. Her dam sire, Yankee Glide, was a stakes winner at two.

Ron Burke's entry, Anonyme Hanover, has done well in qualifiers. Burke has 25% for winners with first timers and 21% for winners with 2 year olds. Anonyme Hanover will be hoppled for the first time in this race. Her sire, Explosive Matter, is a new sire who won 5 out of 6 races during his 2 year old season and was second in the Breeder's Crown Final. His freshman crop will be closely scrutinized this season and 7 of them are running on tonight's card, so keep an eye out for them.

Violet Eyes posted a good time and was less than a length behind the winner in her first parimutuel outing at Harrah's. She's a Tom Ridge filly out of dam sire American Winner. Tom Ridge had 6 out of 8 for wins in his first season. He was a finalist in the Peter Haughton Memorial and the New Jersey Sire Stakes at The Meadowlands.

Champagne Dreams, out of SJS Caviar and dam sire American Winner, gets a driver change with Ron Pierce but has the less than advantageous ( in a trot) 1 post. She did post a speed rating that is very close to par for this race, but showed little in her last race from the 3 post at Harrah's. Whether she will like Pocono better is a question that will be answered tonight. She has shown some closing ability when she was parked out in her last race and might just need the right situation to show what she can do.

Drunkard's Dream, a Yankee Glide filly out of celebrated dam sire Pine Chip, is trained by Joe Holloway, who has 23% for wins with 2 year olds. George Napolitano drives this first time starter. Note that Drunkard's Dream's two qualifiers were run on a track rated as "good", so judge accordingly.

Sally Savannah, daughter of Equinox with dam sire Donerail, placed on a sloppy track at Pocono and was also second in a Baby Race here. Mike Simons drives for J Neal Ehrhart. Expect this filly to have good gate speed because she was quick to leave in both of her races.

Watch and wager on these races at Bet America, where Pocono is a bonus track with 3% cash back on all your wagers there. As always, safe trips to all the drivers and horses on tonight's card.
