2018 Kentucky Derby workout report for April 22
The preps are done and it’s just two weeks until the Kentucky Derby (G1) on May 5 at Churchill Downs.
The contenders are gearing up for the 144th Run for the Roses with works across the country, so this report changes from workouts and updates to simply workouts.

Good Magic (134 Derby Points) – Chad Brown trainee breezed a half-mile in :48 over the fast main track at Keeneland on April 21; Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) champion expected to ship to Churchill Downs on April 22 and have his final Derby work under the Twin Spires.
Audible (110) – Once-beaten Florida Derby (G1) victor breezed five-eighths in 1:01.40 over the fast dirt at Palm Beach Downs on April 20; Todd Pletcher trainee scheduled to ship to Churchill Downs on April 23 and a have breeze over the surface.
Noble Indy (110) – Louisiana Derby (G2) hero covered six furlongs in 1:15 over Palm Beach Downs’ fast dirt in company on April 20; Take Charge Indy colt expected to ship to Churchill Downs April 23 along with trainer Todd Pletcher’s other three Kentucky Derby contenders.
Vino Rosso (107) – Chestnut son of Curlin logged a half-mile breeze in :49.65 over the fast dirt at Palm Beach Downs on April 20; Wood Memorial (G2) romper set to ship to Churchill Downs on April 23 with the rest of trainer Todd Pletcher’s Kentucky Derby hopefuls.
Bolt d’Oro (104) – Dual Grade 1 winner worked seven furlongs in 1:24.20 over Santa Anita Park’s fast dirt on April 22; Mick Ruis-owned and -trained colt enters Kentucky Derby off runner-up effort in Santa Anita Derby (G1).
Enticed (103) – Kiaran McLaughlin trainee breezed five furlongs in 1:01.20 over the fast dirt at Palm Meadows Training Center on April 19; Medaglia d’Oro colt headed to Kentucky Derby off bumpy second-place finish in the Wood Memorial (G2) at Aqueduct on April 7.
Justify (100) – Unbeaten Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner worked three-quarters in 1:13.20 over Santa Anita Park’s fast main track on April 21; Bob Baffert pupil enters Kentucky Derby off just one stakes start.
Flameaway (70) – Scat Daddy colt breezed five furlongs in 1:00.40 over Churchill Downs’ fast main track on April 21; Mark Casse trainee finished second in past two starts, the Tampa Bay Derby (G2) and Blue Grass Stakes (G2).
Bravazo (54) – Awesome Again colt breezed six furlongs in 1:15.40 from the gate on the fast dirt at Churchill Downs on April 20; D. Wayne Lukas trainee suffered subpar eighth-placing in Louisiana Derby (G2) last out.
Promises Fulfilled (52) – Shackleford colt breezed five furlongs in :59.20 on April 21 over the fast main track at Churchill Downs; Dale Romans trainee finished last of nine in the Florida Derby (G1) in his last start.
Free Drop Billy (44) – Grade 1 hero breezed bullet five furlongs in :59 over fast main track at Churchill Downs on April 21; Union Rags chestnut placed third in the Blue Grass Stakes (G2) last out on April 7 for trainer Dale Romans.
Lone Sailor (42) – Maiden winner breezed bullet five-eighths in :57.60 over Churchill Downs’ fast main track on April 19; Tom Amoss-trained Majestic Warrior colt just missed in the Louisiana Derby (G2) last out on March 24 at Fair Grounds.
Hofburg (40) – Tapit chestnut breezed five furlongs in a bullet 1:01.40 over Payson Park Training Center’s fast dirt on April 22; Bill Mott trainee enters Kentucky Derby off runner-up performance in Florida Derby (G1).
Firenze Fire (39) – Jason Servis trainee blew out three furlongs in :39.70 on April 21 over Belmont Park’s fast dirt training track; Grade 1-winning Poseidon’s Warrior sophomore finished fourth in the Wood Memorial (G2) at Aqueduct on April 7.
Snapper Sinclair (22) – City Zip colt breezed five furlongs in 1:03.20 over Churchill Downs’ fast main track on April 17; Steve Asmussen pupil currently resides in 22nd on the Kentucky Derby Leaderboard with 22 points.
