Hialeah Park will host one of the richest days of their 2016 Quarter Horse meet on Sunday, January 17. There will be five stakes races on the nine-race card, which gets underway at 12:35 (ET).

Several notable runners will compete 400 yards in the $390,395 Hialeah Derby. Tee Chic was the winner of the $410,000 Oklahoma Futurity at Remington Park for trainer Rick Robinson, and will be a fairly short price. Others to consider include EC Jet One from the barn of Judd Kearl and Sheza Hot Valentine, who was the fastest qualifier in trials. She is trained by Rolando Almanza, who is off to a very good start at the South Florida racetrack.

Almanza will saddle the likely favorite in the $204,310 Hialeah Maturity. Moonin The Eagle, was dominant in his trial and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez in the 440-yard stakes. The striking gray will face a tough rival in Premier Ethics, who has won five straight races at Hialeah Park.

Three additional stakes include the $100,580 Florida Quarter Horse Racing Association Stallion Stakes Derby, the $20,000 Hialeah Junior Maturity for 4-year-olds, and the $30,000 El Nino Stakes for 3-year-olds. Multiple stakes winner Careless Lightning, will make his three-year-old debut in the El Nino. The son of American Runaway captured the $152,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Lone Star Park, one of the six AQHA Challenge Year-End Championships.
