mediaBREEDERS' CUP FILLY & MARE TURF PICKS AND ANALYSIS

By Jen Perkins, BetAmerica Marketing Manager

1st Choice: #1 Sea Calisi (8-1)

In her four starts since shipping to the US, Sea Calisi has never run out of the money and has been a low price every time. She’ll have to get around Lady Eli and Sentiero Italia in this race, who defeated her last time out in the Flower Bowl. However, she’s usually had a much tougher trip than her rivals, and her speed figures back this up. Her draw on the rail could be a huge plus here as she may be able to avoid the wide trip around the course and save some ground while she makes her usual closing run.

2nd Choice: #8 Lady Eli (5-2)

Lady Eli’s comeback after battling laminitis is nothing short of miraculous, and to come back in top form speaks to how good this filly really is. Her only loss is a second-place finish in the Ballston Spa (G2), but she is 2 for 2 at this distance and even has a win over the Santa Anita turf course.

3rd Choice: #13 Nuovo Record (12-1)

The star Japanese mare Nuovo Record ships to the US for the first time, and looks to hit the board for the first time in her fourth 2016 start. She has significant backclass and her lifetime earnings ($5 million) are nearly more than the rest of the field combined. Her speed figures are significantly better than most of this field as well, even in her most recent starts, and she’ll actually face a smaller field than she’s used to.

4th Choice #2 Catch a Glimpse (12-1)

Has Catch a Glimpse peaked? Chances are, she needs a break after a 2015-2016 campaign that included 8 straight victories, a win in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf, and Canadian Horse of the Year honors. She escapes her rival Time and Motion but didn’t exactly draw into an easy field of top turf
