In Quarter Horse racing, the lion's share of purse money is dedicated to the 2-year-olds. Talented juveniles can compete in several million dollar stakes, known as futurities.

Remington Park ran the $1.1 million Heritage Place Futurity in May; Los Alamitos hosted the $980,000 Ed Burke Million Futurity last month and this weekend the final of the $1 Million Rainbow Futurity will be contested at Ruidoso Downs.  The New Mexico track is also the home of the richest futurity in the country, the  All American Futurity which is run on Labor Day. Officials at Ruidoso Downs announced earlier this year that the 2015 purse will be a record $3 million dollars!

Handicapping the futurities can be a challenge, as many of the entrants are just beginning their racing careers and don't have extensive past performance information. That's why knowledge of top 2-year-old sires will pay big dividends in handicapping these races. The American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) updates the lists of leading sires of racehorses, by the wins of their offspring as well as money earned.  Currently, the top five sires, by earnings are:

2015 Leading Two Year Old Sires
  1. Walk Thru Fire
  2. Corona Cartel
  3. Ivory James
  4. Jess Louisiana Blue
  5. Pyc Paint Your Wagon

Each of the sires listed above have continue to produce top-caliber runners and are well-respected in regions throughout North America. Learning some of the "first crop" sires; those producing racehorses for the first time, can result in cashing some nice winning tickets. Here are the five top in this category:
