Mac Diarmida Stakes Gulfstream Park Saturday, February 15, 2014 Race 10, Post Time 5:03 pm ET

AMEN KITTEN makes his first start since finishing third in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby in December, but looks to be the right horse to wager on Saturday in the turf marathon Mac Diarmida. The four-year-old gelding broke his maiden over the Gulfstream turf course as a two-year-old and has been training regularly for the last month. Off the pace, into the winner's circle. A surprise entrant in the field, making his first start on turf, was ALPHA, the five-year-old horse that won the Grade 1 Woodward and the Grade 1 Travers over the dirt at Saratoga. Joel Rosario is named to ride and he can be very good on the front end. TWILIGHT ECLIPSE could sit the trip in the race and is likely to get first run on the front-runners. He won a Grade 3 off the turf at Calder in December, but won the Grade 2 Pan American over the Gulfstream turf last March. He was also only beat two and one-quarter lengths in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Turf last November. SLUMBER could fall through the cracks in the betting coming off a fourth place finish in the Grade 2 Fort Lauderdale one month ago. He was Group placed in England back in 2011 and finished fourth in the Grade 1 Turf Classic at Belmont in September. John Velazquez is named to ride the six-year-old Juddmonte Farms owned horse.
