About 15 minutes following the Dogwood S. (G3) at Churchill Downs, the $350,000 Charles Town Oaks (G3) saw Hot City Girl utilize the same front-running tactics as Super Majesty for a 2 1/2-length score under jockey Jose Ortiz.

The duo took command from the start and proceeded through splits of :22.96 and :46.74. Toutsie Rules, the 40-1 longshot in the six-filly field, tracked in second and put in her move rounding the turn, but Hot City Girl turned back the challenge and opened up in the lane to finish seven furlongs on the fast Charles Town dirt in 1:23.80.

Temper Mint Patty got up to nose out Toutsie Rules for second. Sarah Sis, the heavy favorite, faded to last, 14 1/2 lengths behind the winner.

Trained by Linda Rice for Lady Sheila Stable, Hot City Girl earned her first stakes score in this spot. The chestnut miss broke her maiden last November at Aqueduct by 6 3/4 lengths and garnered her only other victory to date in an allowance/optional claimer in her sophomore bow on January 11.

Hot City Girl made her stakes bow between those two wins – a runner-up effort in the East View S. at Aqueduct – and followed her season-opening score with another second, this time in the Wide Country S. at Laurel Park.

Prior to Saturday, the New York-bred miss was a dead-head fifth in the Mother Goose S. (G1) at Belmont Park in late June.

Charles Town Oaks Quotes:

Linda Rice (trainer, winner Hot City Girl) – “We’re absolutely thrilled. I’d scratched her out of the (September 6) Prioress ([G2] at Saratoga) when she drew the 1 (post) in a large field and I didn’t like the way the race set up for her. She was 6-to-1 in here, so it wasn’t like she was a big favorite or something, but Jose (Ortiz) rode a beautiful race.

“We had been trying to get her graded placed or a graded win. She’s a half-sister to (multiple Grade 2-winning millionaire) La Verdad and I’ve trained for Mrs. Rosenblum for a while, so this is special.

“After watching her tonight, I think we might try her in the ($250,000) Raven Run (G2) at Keeneland coming up (on October 17).”
