How to bet the Frizette Stakes
A berth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) is on the line when seven 2-year-old fillies contest the $250,000 Frizette (G1) at Belmont Park on Saturday.
#4 Joy’s Rocket will establish the advantage early on, with #1 Vequist and #5 Dayoutoftheoffice tracking with intent from the break. The pace will be quick.
#1 VEQUIST -- Splendid Spinaway (G1) heroine drew the rail for her Belmont debut for Reid. Nyquist filly tracked the pace before drawing off in her latest venture, and an extra furlong will pose no problem for the exciting prospect. She gets top billing with Saez retaining the ride.
#2 CANTATA -- Logical contender aired on debut at the Spa to the tune of a 10-length waltz for Asmussen. $950,000 daughter of Medaglia d’Oro is bred to thrive going a route of ground, and she comes in with six solid morning moves in advance of her graded bow. Joel Rosario will guide the February foal.
#3 CILLA -- Outsider was a non-factor in the Sorority S. on the Monmouth turf last time out. California Chrome lass will make her first run for Bentley Combs on Saturday, but she landed in a very ambitious spot against some fine fillies.
#4 JOY’S ROCKET -- Second from the Asmussen shedrow is the pace of the race and could be dangerous on the turf-to-dirt move. Stakes vixen has run well on every surface to date, which includes a first-out score over sloppy going at Churchill Downs. Daughter of Anthony’s Cross will be sent from the break by Jose Ortiz.
#5 DAYOUTOFTHEOFFICE -- Splendid Schuylerville (G3) victress has done nothing wrong from a pair of dominant wins to date for Hamm. Into Mischief filly proved that she could rate off the tempo and still kick home with energy in her latest affair, and the Kentucky-bred has posted some swift morning drills leading up to her Grade 1 debut. Junior Alvarado stays in the silks.
#6 GET ON THE BUS -- Maiden from the barn of Doug O’Neill was a smart second in her initial offering in the Sorrento (G2), prior to being outrun when fourth in the Del Mar Debutante (G1). $340,000 daughter of Uncle Mo has put in a trio of solid drills on the surface, and improvement is expected with Lezcano in the stirrups.
#7 FIFTH RISK -- Outwork filly was a first-out graduate at Saratoga for the always dangerous Todd Pletcher. March foal drew great with the outside post for the Frizette, but she will need a hefty step forward to challenge the top players in the field on Saturday beneath John Velazquez.
