A cast of six talented graded stakes winners will run 1 1/16 miles on the Belmont main oval in Saturday’s $300,000 Ogden Phipps (G1).

Ogden Phipps Analysis

The tempo of the Ogden Phipps will be strong with three contenders vying for the edge in the early going. #3 She’s A Julie, #4 Blamed, and #5 Ollie’s Candy, all possess sharp gate presence and will be in the hunt from the break.

#6 Golden Award will track while close to the leading trio, with confirmed late runners #1 Pink Sands and #2 Point of Honor trailing the field.

Ogden Phipps Contenders

#1 PINK SANDS -- Peaking Tapit mare rides in on a two-race win streak following triumphs in the Inside Information (G2) and Rampart (G3) at Gulfstream Park. McGaughey pupil has hit the board in each of her five prior outings at Belmont Park, and the 5-year-old will get a swift pace to rally into beneath Jose Ortiz.

#2 POINT OF HONOR -- Grade 2 queen makes her third start of the season while aiming for her initial Grade 1 tally for Weaver. Curlin filly made a strong late run to be third in the recent Apple Blossom (G1), and I expect her to thrive while making her debut over “Big Sandy” on Saturday.

#3 SHE’S A JULIE -- Asmussen charge is a Grade 1 heroine who makes her second appearance of 2020. Daughter of Elusive Quality draws inside the other pace in the field, and she could lead the ladies to the turn for home with Santana in the controls.

#4 BLAMED -- Fleet Blame mare is one of two in the field for Bill Mott. 5-year-old is not overly consistent, but she can really run on her best days, and she is another who might take to the configuration of the Belmont main surface in her local bow. John Velazquez riding is always a positive.

#5 OLLIE’S CANDY -- Grade 1 victress from the barn of John Sadler just missed when leading for nearly every step of the Apple Blossom most recently. Candy Ride mare has trained in fine fashion in the interim, and she could peak third time out this campaign with Joel Rosario retaining the mount.

#6 GOLDEN AWARD -- Second from the Mott shedrow had a sharp prep for this affair when second in the slop in the Royal Delta (G3) at Gulfstream Park. Half-sister to dual classic winner I’ll Have Another draws an ideal post outside of the field, and she will have no excuses with clear sailing throughout under Junior Alvarado.
