Picks and Plays
Presque Isle Downs: Race 3: Maiden Special Weight (one mile and 70 yards on Tapeta, 2:24 p.m. ET)
In terms of Brisnet Speed ratings, #3 Lovely Ever After (9-2) is fast enough to win this maiden special weight for fillies and mares. She finished second in a one-mile heat over this track and class level on May 25, beaten just 1 1/4 lengths while earning a 73 Brisnet Speed rating tied for the highest figure in Monday’s field.
That effort marked Lovely Ever After’s first start over a synthetic track, so she still has upside for improvement under the care of hot trainer Tim Girten, who has gone 6-for-21 (29%) to start the Presque Isle meet.
In addition to a win bet on Lovely Ever After, we’ll key her over #1 Cornice Traverse (9-5) in the exacta.
- $20 to win on #3 Lovely Ever After
- $10 Exacta: 3 with 1
Presque Isle Downs: Race 6: $8,000 Claiming (6 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta, 3:45 p.m. ET)
#6 Enjoy the Music (6-1) loves the Tapeta track at Presque Isle Downs. He’s won his last four starts over this surface with improving Brisnet Speed ratings of 72, 76, 77, and 77, most recently kicking off 2022 with a comfortable triumph in a $5,000 claimer.
Enjoy the Music has an effective stretch kick and will be guided on Monday by hot jockey Avery Whisman, who has gone 3-for-7 (43%) at Presque Isle this meet. Throw in the fact trainer S. Matthew Kintz strikes at a 31% rate with last-out winners, and Enjoy the Music is worth betting to win at his enticing morning line odds.
#5 Worbothor (9-5) can complete the exacta.
- $20 to win on #6 Enjoy the Music
- $5 Exacta: 6 with 5
Horseshoe Indianapolis: Race 5: Maiden Special Weight (7 1/2 furlongs on turf, 4:34 p.m. ET)
Only one entrant in this maiden special weight for Indiana-breds has ever run on turf (and that try yielded a seventh-place finish), so it’s difficult to know what to expect in this wide-open race.
We’ll take a chance betting #3 Broken Justice (9-2), a son of Harry’s Holiday. Harry’s Holiday was good enough to place second in the Spiral S. (G3) on synthetic, and his progeny win at a 36% rate on grass.
Broken Justice has hit the board a few times against Indiana-bred maiden special weight company on dirt and might relish switching to grass in his four-year-old debut. We’ll place a win bet on Broken Justice, then key him over #8 Indy Biz (2-1) in the exacta.
- $15 to win on #3 Broken Justice
- $5 Exacta: 3 with 8
