Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana is gearing up for its 2016 Quarter Horse meet on Wednesday, August 17. This is the third stop on the Louisiana circuit, which begins with Louisiana Downs, then shifts to Delta Downs, Fair Grounds and wraps up with Evangeline Downs from September through December.

The opening day card will feature trials for the LQHBA Sale Futurity (RG1), and early indications are that there could be as many as 12 trials.  The ten fastest qualifiers will return on Saturday, September 3 to compete for a final purse in excess of $300,000.

The LQHBA Sale Futurity is one of eleven stakes to be contested this season. Track officials are bringing back the popular Zebras and Ostrich races on August  27 and the first ever T-REX Racing and The Bucktown All-Stars August 20.

Trainers to watch include Delta Downs leading conditioner, Trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr;  Michael Taylor; Trey Ellis, Lanny Keith and Martin Trejo.

There is no shortage of talent in the Fair Grounds jockey colony. David Alvarez, who won the title at Delta Downs, will have plenty of mounts along with veteran riders Gilbert Ortiz, Raul Ramirez, Jr., Patrick Watson, John Hamilton and Alfonso Lujan.
