Palm Beach $50,000 Derby
*Ethel Is Here*
The first round went just as expected on Wednesday in the James W. Paul 3/8ths Mile Derby, with many favorites taking home victories. Expect the 2nd Round to have a few more fireworks.
Ethel Is Here was dominant yet again in her opening round win, but a few others have started to emerge as contenders. We will find out who the best 8 middle distance racers will be in the next few weeks leading up to the Final on February 27th.
Here's our Preview to get you going for the second round of the $50,000 Derby Tournament this afternoon at "The Beach."
The futurity Champ got her first middle distance victory in the opening round but will face a much stronger challenge in this start. #3 Pat C Pownzer from the Koppe, Staats & Collins Kennel has one of the best backstretch kicks in the Tourney and is ready to take home a win after a few close calls. #7 Gamma Flash is an intriguing choice on the outside with his success earlier in the season here and an empty box right next door in the 8.
Pownzer flys home for the win here.
No way to sugar coat it. Veteran #3 Pat C Shyne ran terrible in the first round, but is setup to have a good comeback race today. The only true A Grader in this field "So Fine" should have no trouble getting to victory lane today.
Best long shot could be #6 Momma Tia who ran right with Ethel for a good portion of the race last time out.
"So Fine" gets it done today.
This is the one that world will tune in to watch.
#7 Ethel Is Here from the Janie Carroll Kennel is on a world domination tour right now. 21 wins on the year and is starting to pull away in the season victories chase. A perfect Tournament run could seal that race. Was the only greyhound to break 38 seconds in the first round.
More competition in this start for Ethel then the first round, but she should still romp.
The "Gladiator" #2 Maximus Decimus certainly will be looking to get his revenge in this round. After settling for a place spot to #5 Peddler from the Ryan Racing Team on Wednesday, Max looks setup to go today. Both hounds on each side of Decimus today basically sits in the box to start, which should open up clear lanes to fire away.
Defending champion #4 Pat C Brightly must find the pay sheet this afternoon, or her Title defense will be in serious trouble of continuing after her opening round 7th place finish.
"Gladiator" brings home the W.
In my opinion, the best money making race today in this Tourney. #4 CRT Craig from the Champions Racing Team was the only opening round winner of this bunch, but that is no guarantee that happens again today. Craig will be the favorite more then likely, but this race smells like a long shot is brewing.
#8 Atascocita Dago is a must on your exotic plays, with a 82% hit rate.
Top Pick - Race 12 #7 Ethel Is Here
