Palm Beach Kennel Club: Who Will Be Champion?

We are a few weeks into the new season at the Palm Beach Kennel Club and the action has been fantastic as it always is.  Coming off of the best season ever here, the biggest question I have for this next season….who will be the next Track Wins Champion?

Rader Racing’s KB’s Like A Fox ran away with it last year but will it be that easy to repeat this season?  Only three greyhounds have repeated this feat since 1976 (He’s My Man 1988 & 89, DV’s Midnight 2003, 2004 & Ozzie The Man 2005, 2006)

Here are the top greyhounds that I believe will challenge for the title this season:

JS Speedy Pebbles

~JS SpeedyPebbles –545 Yard Racer- Koppe, Staats & Collins Kennel

“The reigning Queen of Palm Beach.”

29 wins last season and a 60% winning percentage.  Only Rob Gronkowski with his ridiculous 83% was higher (minimum 25 races).  If Pebbles stays healthy (she missed a decent amount of time last season with only 48 starts) she should absolutely challenge for the title. Besides staying healthy, the key for Pebbles will be to stay sharp. The 545 yard greyhounds at Palm Beach are some of the best in the country. Pebbles will need to make at least 60 starts.

~Bae Sang -  Super Sprinter - Rader Racing

“The best super sprinter I have ever seen run at Palm Beach.” –Track Announcer Mike Jameson

KB’s Like A Fox’s main rival.  Bae Sang had a 68% win percentage last season, but was only here for 22 races after transferring from Southland Park.  If he runs an entire season and can stay consistent on the super sprint course, he could give Rader Racing another champion.

~Relativity – 545 Yard Racer – Douglas Racing Team

Won 27 races last season and is still in the prime of his career. Won’t turn 3 until October.   The Chris Straka owned greyhound loves the inside and when he is on, can be absolutely dynamic.  Will need to bring his win percentage up (39%) from last season to challenge for the title. One of the only greyhounds to beat Rob Gronkowski last season.

~Flying The Who – 660 Yard Racer – Royal Racing Team

“The Who”

Could the next champ come from the middle distance?  Out of all of the distances here at Palm Beach, this is the toughest to be consistent with.  “The Who” had 18 wins last season, most of them coming after the Derby finished in February.  Has won 9 of his last 15 races. Is currently on a break but I’ve been told by Royal Racing that she should return very soon, which would improve her chances at the Title.

~KB’s Like A Fox – Super Sprinter - Rader Racing

“The Fox Rocks” – Me

It’s hard to repeat as champion (unless you are Rader Racing who has 10 consecutive Kennel Championships and counting).  If anybody could repeat as champ though, “The Fox” might be just the one to do it. 37 times a winner and a 56% win percentage last season and has consistently pounded lesser competition.  Is also in the prime of his career, not turning 3 until August.  Watch the best rivalry at “The Beach” with Bae Sang whenever it happens this season.
