If I've said it once, I've said it a thousand times over the last 7 days... it's so nice to have NYRA at BetAmerica!

Let's see if we can't make some money in the featured 8th today.

The condition is a bit confusing... to run, the horses have fit at least one of the following criteria: a) have never won $10k twice other than maiden, claiming, starter, or against NY-breds b) have never won 3 races c) are running for the $62.5k claiming price

The field this condition attracts winds up being really good. Most of these could easily step up against minor stakes company.

note: after checking Scratches & Changes, we learn that the main track is Muddy today

Belmont race 8 | 4:57 pm ET OC 62k/N2X for 3&up going 1-1/16 mi.

1-Mighty Ian (trainer scratch)

2-Beautyinthepulpit: in for the claiming tag, the 6yo has run well in the mud & has liked the 1-1/16 mi. before

1A-Abraham: ran well on the barn switch and off the layoff last out; has been working with talented filly Grace Hall since the last start

3-Ender Knievel: hasn't run in 404 days, but showed ability last year

4-Groomedforvictory: in for the tag and always runs his race

5-Touchofstarquality: talented colt is bred for the stretch-out

6-Gotham News: gets a second chance at this level after failing to fire last out

7-Herbal Prospector: in for the tag; speed steps up off the confidence win

This is one of those handicapping puzzles where you have to figure out which version of the good horses will show up: each of them have thrown a clunker enough to make you question them. So what do you do?

Trust your instincts and go off memory.

I remember Touchofstarquality's debut: it pricked the hairs on the back of my neck, so he will always get my support. Abraham has always confounded me: I like any horse who breaks his maiden going long and maybe he would've been a different horse if they hadn't chased the Derby Trail last year. Ender Knievel is the one I don't know what to do with: he's probably in a little over his head, but it's Pletcher/JohnnyV off a layoff and that's a dangerous combination.

Of the Others, you're going to get a great price on the super consistent Herbal Prospector. Then there's Groomedforvictory: he's always around at the wire, but that's against lower level Starter Allowance foes and this group is much better than what he's been facing.

Picks: 5 - 7 - 1 - 3
