Round 3 of the 2016 $20,000 bestbet Sprint Classic is in the books and no one was left unscathed. The sole undefeated runner, Hey Hey Daddy was taken down, so others seized that opportunity to post up a win and sit tied atop of the point rankings heading into the semi-finals. Stakes experience seemed to be the calling of the day as two former stakes champs, and a multi-stakes finalist, all scored at the wire with 19 points. Let’s take a closer look at the results for round number 3.

The race of the evening came in the 11th as multi-stakes finalist Ww’s Sammy came to run. In a very tough field, that included the undefeated Hey Hey Daddy, Sammy was her best self. She hit the lid and never looked back. Rushing away to the turn, she put up almost 6 lengths between her and the rest of the field, and the lead was not going to get any smaller. Cruising down the backside she maintained her margin to the far turn. Down the stretch she rumbled and breezed all the way to the finish line for the dominate win. Crossing almost 6 lengths clear of the rest, she was never challenged in this effort as she posted up the quickest trip on the card at 30.40 seconds. Easi Charlie won the next best award as he chased the pace throughout but could never gain on the leader. Hey Hey Daddy gave an even run in the money for third and Lee Tuco closed late to steal away the final spot in the superfecta.

Ln Houdini pulled off another Magic Trick in the 10th race as the 2016 Patton Silver Cup winner stalked the pace throughout and shifted gears in the stretch to steal away the victory at the wire. From the box it was business as usual for Cj’s Sadie. Once again she exploded to the front end and set the pace for the rest of the field. Stealing away almost 5 lengths early on, she was in complete control, but the second half of the race is always tough for her. Dwindling her lead down the backside she was barely in front at the far turn, and try as she might coming home, she was not match for the stakes champ in the deep stretch. All in all, another great effort, but she finished runner-up to Ln Houdini tonight. Third went to the always gaining Charlie Bale. Breaking slowly, he advanced throughout, and overcame a block in the far turn to drive on home and beat out the early chasing threat, and puppy stakes winner, Pullanallnighter in the stretch.

The other former stakes winner that decided to show up was the winner of this race last year. Cj’s Colin has found his break and that might just be bad news for the fields that he will be running against in the future. This early speed machine came to run from the start and took over the race in the early stages. Rushing to the front end, he seized command and took the lead around the first bend headed up the backside. From there he held tough on the lead, and even though the margin might have shrunk, he never showed any signs of giving him. Digging down deep, he found that determination that stakes champs have, and pushed on through the finish line to secure yet another stakes round win her at bestbet Jacksonville. Pushing the pace for the entire way was Boc’s Andross. On another occasion, against another field, he might have just pulled off the upset. He was a threat from the box to the wire, chipped away at the leader all the way around the racetrack, but in the end he had to settle for place at the finish line. The early speeder, and 2nd round winner, Ww’s Lost Girl ran a steady race in third and held off the late challenge by Sheezsohot at the wire for the last spot in the trifecta. Hot came from way back and finished out the superfecta at the finish line.

Last but not least, DQ did win a race in this round, and it came in the 7th with Hey Pretty Baby. This first round closing winner did was she does best in this one and proved unstoppable at the finish line. From the break the outside part of the racetrack was in early control. Jilian Of Ruckus and Rams Moberrie both broke well and lead the way to the first turn on the lead. As they reached the corner, there was some trouble behind, but the bad news for them was that Hey Pretty Baby missed it, actually benefited a bit from it, and was way closer to the front end as they headed up the backside. Pushing on, this duo continued to lead the way, but at the far turn, things started to change. The closers had started to make their run and as they turned for home, they were going to be hard pressed to hold on. Down the stretch they came and the closer they got to the wire, the closer that they got to defeat. Hey Pretty Baby hit the turbos in the final few strides and captured the win away in the deep stretch. Jilian of Ruckus managed to hold on and win the photo for place as Kc’s Tess and Ww’s Gypsumclear who were all in the mix at the wire for the second spot.

For the semi-finals the field will be trimmed down once again and only the top 24 greyhounds will have a shot to make it into the final round field. Watch for them this coming Saturday evening, July 30th, at bestbet Jacksonville as we determined just who will be running for the cash and crown on Saturday evening August 6th in conjunction with the end of the Greyhound Summer promotion.
