2022 Preakness Stakes Odds
The morning line odds for the 2022 Preakness Stakes are available! Traditionally the Preakness odds come out immediately following the post-position draw. Although there is rarely TV coverage of the post position draw, in 2017 and 2018 the event was streamed live via the Preakness Facebook page.
Keith Fuestle is the current Preakness oddsmaker. Following the 2013 Preakness, he became the successor to the long-serving Pimlico oddsmaker, Frank Carulli.
Following the post position draw and the release of the 2022 Preakness odds, betting will be available by Friday morning at racetracks, simulcast centers, and on Advance Deposit Wagering (ADW) platforms such as TwinSpires.com.
While as many as 20 horses are allowed to compete at the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness field is limited to 14 starters. It is somewhat rare to see a full Preakness field of 14, as the only times the starting gate was filled to capacity in recent memory were: 1992, 2005, and 2011.

The Traditional Odds-On Favorite
More often than not, the winner of the Kentucky Derby is the favorite according to oddsmakers heading into the Preakness Stakes. But the favorite at Pimlico is upset by another contender more often than not. Since 1919, just thirty five Kentucky Derby winners have gone on to win the Preakness. Therefore, the win percentage for the Kentucky Derby winner in the Preakness is just 36% (36/100).
Aside from the Kentucky Derby winner, the only guaranteed entry for the Preakness Stakes is the winner of the Federico Tesio Stakes at Laurel Park in April. Since 2016, the Federico Tesio Stakes has been a "win and you're in" qualification race for the Preakness. In 2018, the John C. Servis-trained thoroughbred, Diamond King prevailed in the Federico Tesio and finished 7th out of 8 horses in the field. In 2019, Runnymede Racing's Alwaysmining won his 6th consecutive race at the Federico Tesio Stakes and is said to be in good form heading into the Preakness Stakes.
