What an exciting 11th race it was on Friday evening as Round 3 of the Southland $20,000 IRON DOG CHALLENGE STAKES was run. Going off as the betting favorite and getting out to the lead early was XKT JON SCHNABLE breaking quickly from the 5 box and trying to make it 3 wins in a row over the 3 separate distances that this stakes consisted of. Also breaking quickly was Braska Dale from the 7 box and Barts Girl from the 8 box. These three made it a good battle early but as they headed down the backstretch fans could see it developing into a two greyhound duel with Xkt Jon Schnabel and Braska Dale both giving it all they had as BGR Z Z Top gave a valiant effort in his effort to chase them down.

As they entered the far turn, Braska Dale began his move to the front and by the top of the stretch had taken a slight lead. It wasn't over just yet as Xkt Jon Schnabel seemed to kick in a higher gear and came back at the leader one more time but just missed, running second beaten by a length at best. A memorable race for greyhound fans everywhere and the finals are sure to be more of the same. Keep in mind that the points leader of these three rounds (XKT JON SCHNABEL) gets to choose the distance that the finals will be run on. Remember the Finals are set for Friday evening, February 24 so be sure to mark this on your calendar.
