An action-packed weekend of Kentucky Derby preps takes place across the country, and can help make sense of a trio of points contests with Tipsheets for each contest.

Starting in Florida at Tampa Bay Downs, 11 sophomores were entered in the $400,000 Tampa Bay Derby (G2) but only nine are expected to start after Free Drop Billy and Enticed caught a delayed flight to New York. That leaves Flameaway hoping for another upset after wiring the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) over the track by a half-length at 10-1.

A field of eight will line up in the $400,000 San Felipe Stakes (G2) at Santa Anita Park. The 1 1/16-mile event includes Bolt d’Oro, who is making his much-anticipated debut, and McKinzie, who captured the Sham Stakes (G3) on January 6.

The $300,000 Gotham Stakes (G3) will send nine runners a mile over the main track at Aqueduct to wrap up the Derby preps. Firenze Fire and Free Drop Billy are the main draws in the race, with the former exiting a runner-up effort in Aqueduct’s Withers Stakes (G3) and the latter filling the second spot in the Holy Bull Stakes (G2) at Gulfstream Park.
