Scully, Hanson find price plays in Pool 2 of Kentucky Derby Future Wager
With Pool 2 of the 2021 Kentucky Derby Future Wager now open, Brisnet.com editors James Scully and Vance Hanson have put their heads together and reached a consensus on an individual entry they both like. They also scanned the remaining options and have each picked out a candidate they're excited about backing in the pool this week.

Consensus Pick: Kentucky Derby Future Wager Pool 2
#21 Senor Buscador (20-1), a powerful closer, has displayed a terrific turn of foot winning both starts, including a 5 3/4-length victory in the Springboard Mile. Solid Brisnet numbers, room for improvement. Intriguing late runner. Todd Fincher trainee is readying at Sam Houston for his seasonal bow.
James Scully's bonus free pick
#14 Medina Spirit (12-1) may be overlooked following a fine second to stablemate Life Is Good in Sham (G3) -- he's eligible to be the third or fourth choice among five Bob Baffert runners in Pool 2 -- but dark bay colt has plenty going for him. Medina Spirit has shown good tactical speed in both starts, and longer distances look like no issue for the improving son of Protonico. The $35,000 2-year-old purchase lacks a flashy pedigree, but Medina Spirit appears to have plenty of upside for a six-time Kentucky Derby-winning conditioner.
Vance Hanson's bonus free pick
#19 Prime Factor (30-1) is among the less-exposed candidates in this lineup who figures to offer a square price. The Quality Road colt was a convincing debut winner by more than eight lengths at Gulfstream last month going 6 furlongs, and appears to have the scope and stride to stretch out effectively (how far is anyone's guess, though). Ownership group and Pletcher have each successfully been down this road before with horses who had little to no 2-year-old form, so he could advance through the ranks quickly this winter.
