Welcome to another Southland monthly preview of the Five Up & Coming Young Greyhounds To Watch In May.

These five are those that have shown solid potential from the moment they stepped on the track and who I feel are definitely worth watching over the next few months as they gain valuable experience in each race they run. I will follow up with recaps from time to time on their progress and hopefully we will be able to put some $$$$$$ in our pockets along the way. I have listed these alphabetically and the only requirement I use in selecting these five greyhounds is that they have 10 or less starts in their career to be eligible. Good luck to all and thanks for reading.

Five Up and Coming Greyhounds To Watch at Southland in May

CAYENNE STARBUCK - no career starts yet - impressive young pup who has run 4 schooling races and won them all including wins by 17 and 11 lengths. Three of his wins came at the Orange Park track before he transferred to Southland but in his first schooling race here, he added another win so he definitely bears watching in his coming races. He is a mid-track runner with a lot of early speed as well as a late kick down the stretch. First official start is Wednesday, April 29 in the 3rd race where he starts from the 8 box.

KJ'S FRIDAY - 2 official starts - 1 win and a second place finish. He had two schooling races in which he had a win and a second place finish then starts his career with a 2nd place effort in his first official race and last time out takes care of business and gets the win. Tons of early speed and a good rush to go along with his inside running style. Better keep an eye on this one as he's been near the front in all of his races so far. Last race was in the matinee on Saturday, April 25 in the 3rd race where he started from the one box and won the race.

SHILOH - 9 official starts - 3 wins, 4 seconds and a third place finish. He has gone from Maiden grade to Grade B in a little over a month so his career is off to a very strong start. In moving up to Grade B he had 7 races over the 583 yard course where he had 2 wins and 4 second place efforts. The past two races have been over the 660 yard course and he's got a win and a 3rd place finish in those. A very consistent and versatile runner already, he's capable of a good rush to the turn at times but his strength is his outstanding closing ability. Be sure to give him a look as his greyhound racing future seems bright indeed. Next official start is Thursday, April 30, in the 13th race where he starts from the 6 box.

TWEETER IT - 3 official starts - 2 wins and a second place finish. This young greyhound has shown good early speed, a nice rush and a big closing kick so he's certainly got the talent and ability to be a solid top grade runner. He is already in Grade C and I look for him to continue to move up in class. Next official start is Thursday, April 30 in the 2nd race where he starts from the 6 box.

WW'S HULK SMASH - 4 official starts - 1 win, two second place finishes and one third place effort. He's showing good consistency as evidenced by this 4 for 4 in the money races and so far has given 110% each time out. Though he hasn't shown much early speed right out of the box to this point in his very young career he has demonstrated a good solid rush to the turn as well as having a strong kick down the stretch. He's a mid to wide runner and capable of being a key dog in many races to come. Next official start is Wednesday, April 29, in the 14th race where he starts from the 7 box.

Best of luck to these five greyhounds and thanks for reading.
