The St Leger highlight reel

If only we had video of the St Leger going back to its inaugural running in 1776! Well, at least we can watch some of the more memorable editions in recent decades.

As an appetizer ahead of Saturday's 239th St Leger, here's a selection from the video era, culminating in my favorite:

7. Conduit (2008), future two-time winner of the Breeders' Cup Turf (G1)

6. User Friendly (1992), the most recent filly to win

5. Reference Point (1987), the last Epsom Derby (G1) winner to add this laurel

4. Encke (2012), notable only because Camelot was going for the Triple Crown

3. Oh So Sharp (1985), the 1000 Guineas (G1) and Oaks (G1) heroine completing the Fillies' Triple Crown in the Leger

2. Dunfermline (1977), handing Alleged his only career defeat

1. Was there any doubt? It's Nijinsky (1970), the 2000 Guineas (G1) and Derby hero, ending a 35-year drought by sweeping England's Triple Crown

Nijinsky deserves two clips, don't you think? So here's the bonus coverage:
